Aria Lee arrived on July 26th at 11:50pm after a very short labor of 1 hour 50 minutes from start to finish. She weighed 10 pounds 7 ounces and was 22inches long. BIG BABY, just as I suspected. Her due date wasn’t until the 28th, but I guess she knew what she was doing…being that big, she needed to come out!
I had her at home, in a birthing pool. She was by FAR my easiest labor. The contractions didn’t hardly hurt at all and were never longer than 30 seconds, if that. What WAS hard was pushing her out! She was by far the hardest one to deliver…. all because she was facing up! We didn’t know that until her head popped out and her face was upwards! I had never delivered a posterior baby, so this was a first for me. Anyway, the rest of her came out easily…and out she slid into the water. Up until that point, no one had touched her except me. She delivered herself, with my help of course Then once she was born and was floating in the water, Rich reached down and grabbed her and put her onto my chest. She immediately started to lift her head and made soft crying sounds. I held her in the water for about 10-15 minutes with her cord still attached and pulsing (my midwife does not cut the cord until the cord stops pulsing) and once it was ready to be cut, I was the one to cut it! (I have always wanted to do that)
Anyway,….it was a wonderful birth. I feel so blessed to have a healthy baby girl and to have delivered at home the way I planned without any complications. Again. I am recovering nicely and have been spoiled by my husband who brings up all my meals to our room so that I never have to leave the room and can just bond with Aria. He’s been taking care of all the others and I have nothing to do all day except to care for our new baby. Aria has not come out of our room yet — the room she was born in — and we won’t bring her out until she is 9 days old (because she is the 9th baby!) She is big and healthy and nursing like a champ.
I will post pictures as soon as I can. All photos taken were in 35 mm so I need to get them put onto a disc first…. I know, I know…but my digital camera was out of memory!!!
