This photo is one of my absolute favorites. It was taken a little over three years ago (before Aria came along) and in case you cannot tell, this is the inside of our van. There are 5 carseats in this van (you can see little Aislynn’s head popping out from the very back seat!) and you’ll notice that the big kids (not the teenagers!) are in car seats, too! Yes, those are the WONDERFUL Regent car seats. They fit a child up to 80 pounds. For those of you who have children who are outgrowing their car seats and you *think they should be in booster seats now — well, please do your research. The longer you can keep your child in a 5-point harness car seat, the better! You can read all about car seat safety here, and also check out the links in my navigation bar for more tips on how to better keep your child safe while traveling in a car

Hi, I found your beautiful blog while reading up on a new car seat for our daughter who is six and still in her britax carseat. She still fits and is comfortable but her height is getting close to the max. My husband saw another mom giving me a funny look when I was pulling her straps tight the other day and mentioned we need to get her a booster seat. I’m not comfortable with that and want to keep her in a five point harness. Can you tell me how you delt with “peer pressure” like other children, as we are starting 1st grade, last year I didn’t see one child in a five point harness seat, some not even in a booster. Are your older children able to correctly tighten their straps themselves?
I would appreciate any advice! Thank you.

Thanks for the info, Katrina! Unfortunately, our truck can’t fit two car seats. Our youngest is in a 5 point, and the oldest is in a booster b/c she just couldn’t fit back there. I still have her in a 5 point harness in my Trailblazer, where she rides 99% of the time, but that’s getting too snug. Will have to look into the Regent.
Thanks for joining my Weekend Bloggy Reading party!

Renee,
I am not sure if they are sold in Canada. If you post that question on the Kyle David Miller blog I am quite sure they can answer that for you. And as far as the Regents go, my kids are pretty tall, too, and Alex was in one until he was almost 10 years old. He never complained about it, either. In fact, he was bummed when he outgrew his. It’s VERY comfortable. Shoot, if they made one my size, I’d be in one for sure! I believe the Regent is designed for children up to 80 pounds and 53″ tall. BUT, it’s not really about how tall they are when standing. Instead, the seated height is the deciding factor, not standing height. If your child can sit in the Regent and the tops of his ears are not over the sides of the seat, then he still fits into it.

I’ve discovered your blog about a month ago and am addicted! Thank you so much for reminding me (and others) about car seat safety. My oldest son is in a regular booster – he weighs almost 60 pounds but is very tall. Do the Regent car seats accomodate tall kids? Do you know if they sell them in Canada? And my 19-month old is facing forward – I’m feeling guilty now and need to look into a rear-facing seat for him (he’s also very tall – it’s a pattern with my kids!). He’s going to HATE being turned back around, though…

Megan,
Thank you for your comment. Well, “the rest of the story” is quite long — I want to tell it, but I have to add bit by bit as I can find the time (and motivation, as I am not always in the proper mood to write it – plus, I want to tell it correctly, and I sometimes have to go back into my journal that I kept during her hospital stay in order to get things in the correct order. It was 14 years ago, and although I will never, ever forget all the things that happened during that time, I do tend to forget some details.) As I add more to the story, it will pick up right where I left off (under “our story) and I am hoping to also add photos from way back then, too. (I am in the process of getting all my old film transferred onto discs.) The only other information about Audriana is under her name in my “topics of interest” section in the sidebar

Your car looks like mine! We have a 15 passenger van loaded with car seats – I thought some were boosters, but they all have a 5 point harness, so I will have to check into that. Thanks for the reminder!
Do you have a post somewhere with Audriana’s progress after the accident? I read your story, but my heart wanted “the rest of the story”!
