ME!

I have been award the Stylish Blogger Award! Thanks so very much to Emily at Naptime is My Time and Lisa at Shopping 2 Scale for selecting me as a Stylish Blogger!

To accept this award, the recipients are asked to do the following:
1} Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award
2} Share seven things about yourself
3} Select seven blogs that you feel deserve the award
4} Contact those bloggers and let them know about the award

Seven semi-interesting things about me, in no particular order:

1) My name is Katrina but everyone in my family, all of my friends, my neighbors, my husband — okay, practically everyone I know — calls me Trina.  The reason?  When  my mother named me Katrina, her mother told her that it was much too grown up of a name for a baby or little girl…and she told my mother she would never call me that, but instead would call me “Trina”.    So, for some reason, everyone just started calling me Trina.  And it stuck.  Even my mom calls me Trina.

2)  My favorite chocolate candy is Reese’s Peanut butter cups, and my other favorite candy is Sweetarts.  I could eat Sweetarts for days and days were it not for the fact that they pretty much tear my mouth up after about 20 of them.  Sometimes, when I over-indulge on Sweetarts, the inside of my mouth will be sore for a couple days afterwards.  So not worth it…but does knowing this is going to happen ever stop me?  Nope!

3)  I have a beautiful Arabian horse named Shay who will be 7 years old this April.  I bought him when he was just 12 months old.  He was so little and so cute!  I had never owned a horse before and had never been around horses growing up.  So why did I buy a horse?  Good question.  I think it was some sort of mid-life crisis.  Anyway, he’s a cutie…but I don’t ride him.  I pretty much just brush him and talk to him and walk him around and play with him.  The reason I don’t ride him is because I’m not a good rider, and he’s still a very “green” horse – which means he’s still being trained to ride.  The two of us would make a dangerous combination.   So, for now, I stay off him and let my trainer ride him.  I’m okay with that.

4)  My wedding anniversary is September 11th.  Yep, that’s right: 9/11 is our “special day” — Our special day is America’s most hated day.  Doesn’t that just about suck?   Lucky us that the terrorists chose our wedding anniversary to carry out the most devastating attack our country has ever seen on its own soil.  Nice.

5)  When I was about 11 years old I won a goldfish at the fair and named him “The Gooch” … you know,  after the bully who terrorized Arnold on the tv show “Different Strokes”.

My fish lived for two years…and I believe that’s due to my naming him such a “tough” name.  There’s no other explanation.  Goldfish don’t usually live that long…especially one’s from the fair.

6)  I grew up with a pool in my backyard and LOVED it!  Yet, I choose not to have a pool in my own backyard now that I’m an adult with my own home and children.  I just cannot take the risk, you know?  I need the peace of mind that my little ones can go out in our backyard and play without worrying that they might fall into the pool.  Even having fence around it would not give me peace of mind.  So, I choose not to have one.  Not until the last baby is at least 4 or 5 and can swim.  The only real way to insure that your baby won’t drown in your backyard pool is not to have one.  Period.

Although… I do have a friend who has a netting around her pool.  Out of all the pool safety precautions I have seen, this is the BEST one, in my opinion.  Better than a fence (that can be left open, or older kids can unlatch and forget to latch it again)

I’ve walked across my friend’s safety net — and so have my little ones — and there is no way you can get into that pool once that thing is on.  (For more information, go to:  Katchakid pool safety nets)

7)  When I was younger about 19 or 20 years old, a friend gave me her older sister’s ID to use so that I could get into the cool twenty-one and over clubs.  The photo looked like me and she was just two years older than me, so it was a perfect match.   The funny thing was…my “fake” name was “Jeannie” on the ID…and my boyfriend back then was named Aladdin (seriously, that was his real name. His parents were from the 60’s.  Enough said.)   Anyway, I had that ID until I turned 21 …and so together we were Aladdin and Jeannie.   I always thought that was kinda funny :)

The real Aladdin and Genie

And so there is my list of seven things!
