This week Aria turned FIVE. It’s so hard to believe. Not too long ago, she was the baby of the family. Now she is five years old with a baby brother under her. Here is a quick update on our #9…
- She keeps a very messy, messy bedroom!
- Her favorite place to sleep is in big sister Audriana’s room.
- She can paint her own toe nails and does quite a good job at it.
- She loves to write and constantly asks us how to spell words.
- Her favorite book is still “If You Give a Pig a Party”
- Coloring is her favorite thing to do.
- She learned to ride a bike about 4 months ago!
- Her favorite friends from preschool: Chase & Emma Jean
Daddy was working the day of her birthday, so we took the party to his station so that he could celebrate with us. Aria was especially excited for this. Yep, she’s a major Daddy’s Girl.

Aria has many different names. It seems like everyone in this family has their own special name that they like to call her. I asked her today what everyone in our family calls her, and here is what she said:
Daddy calls me Butter. Audriana calls me SuSu and sometimes TuTu. Afton calls me Toopie and sometimes she calls me Soopy. You (mommy) call me Toots and Aria, and sometimes Ari. Andrew calls me Aria. Alex calls me Ari. Avery calls me Aria and Soopy. Aislynn calls me Aria and Ari. Tony just calls me Aria. A.J. calls me Aria, too. And sometimes Audriana also calls me Baby. And Aiden can’t talk.

Her 4th year was a big one for Aria. First, she started preschool. Next, she learned to ride a bike (which, in our family, is huge because we are a big bike-riding family) And finally, she became a big sister…which is even more huge than riding a bike!

Her 5th year will no doubt be full of many “firsts” and special moments. I can think of one already: Kindergarten! Yes, she will be starting Kindergarten in the fall, and she is very excited about this. I have no doubt that she will be one of the more outspoken ones in her class. Aria doesn’t hold back much. She always has a lot to say.
She’s still adjusting to having a sibling who is younger than her. She loves her baby brother, that’s very obvious. But it’s also a little obvious that she sometimes gets bothered by the fact that she’s not the one getting all of the attention anymore. There is someone smaller and more needy than her now.
I remember when my baby sister was born. I had just turned five the month before, and at first it was all fun and games with a new baby. But after the first three weeks had passed, I was like Mmmm, okay, when will this kid start being fun? Because I’m sick of all the crying, already! I think Aria has arrived at that place, and she has already said a few discouraging things to me, like:
I didn’t ASK for any stupid baby! That was shouted after a very long day; she was tired and in the middle of a meltdown.
When are WE going to have special time together? You’re always with HIM. She says this a lot lately. And yea, it’s true that I am always with the baby. But I read books to her while I’m nursing, and I play Go Fish with her while I’m nursing. But apparently those things don’t count as Special Time when there’s an infant attached to my boob. Ah well.
He’s boring. He can’t even play. This was said after I told her to sit next to Aiden and “play” with him. I guess I shouldn’t have used the word “play”.
Sometimes she asks to hold him. And then he does this.
And then she doesn’t want to hold him anymore. Hey, it’s no fun to hold a crying baby.
I don’t want to rush him because I’m really enjoying his infancy….BUT…it will be nice when Aiden is old enough to play with Aria enough so that she can call him a FUN brother instead of a BORING one!
Happy Birthday, Aria! And remember, Aiden might have taken your spot as the youngest child in our family, but you will always be the youngest girl in our family!
