BROTHER BONDING

August 12, 2013

Alex is my 13 year old who has been asking for another little brother for about five years now. It took a while, but we finally have one for him.
With their age difference, there’s a good chance that Alex will be going off to college when Aiden is about 6 years old.  This thought makes me sad, actually.  But it is what it is.  The fact is that there is a 13 year age difference between these two, and only a short time of Aiden’s childhood will know Alex living in the house with him.  Alex is aware of this, too, and he’s determined to spend as much time as he can with his baby brother in these next six years. This photo is just one example of how Alex is bonding with his baby brother.  He let Aiden take his nap on him like this, and I believe Aiden slept for at least an hour.  It was such a sweet moment in time, and I’m so happy I captured it in a photo.
I think in the years to come, the both of them will treasure this photo.  I know I will.

Our youngest was born when our oldest was about half way through her freshman year of college, and the next one started a year later. I have always been amazed with how the bond between the age-spread siblings is and love how excited the now 7 and 10 yr old are when the ‘big’ girls (1 now married, both grad college and another in college now) come home to visit. There is a bond between siblings that is so special that even distance cannot break it.

My “youngest” was 21 when Spencer was born. When I called him after the birth, he made the 55 minute drive from college to the hospital in 25 minutes.

Even with two children of his own, there is still a very special bond between the two.
