Well, would you look at that — we actually have a smile! Finally! It used to be that he only smiled for us at random times and never when a camera is held up to him. He’s been a very smiley baby these past couple of weeks. And this is a good thing, because he does have a pretty cute smile. It’s about time he shows it off!
Five months old and guess what? His two bottom teeth popped up the other day! So now the little bugger has teeth to bite me with while he’s nursing. Yeah, he’s done that a few times already. I have to really pay attention now. As soon as I sense that he might be getting full, as soon as I sense that he’s not really that into eating…I have to take him off. Quickly. Because if he gets the chance to “play” while he’s supposed to be nursing, then he chomps down on me. And then I yell, “OWWWW!!!” and then he looks up at me with his eyes all BUGGED out in surprise, and then his little bottom lip quivers and his eyes squint up tight and he starts to cry. But there’s no time for me to comfort him because I’m too busy swiping the inside of his mouth making sure my nipple’s not in there. I wouldn’t want him to choke. It’s all about him, you know. Never mind my body parts.
But yes, he’s five months old now and besides his two new teeth that threaten my nipples on a daily basis, here is what else is new with him:
He sits up by himself….
for like, a nanosecond…
and then he tips over.
He does what we like to call, “The Airplane” — where he flings his arms and legs out at the same time and rocks on his belly.
He smiles. He smiles all the time!
He rolls and scoots and rocks on hands and knees. He never, ever stays on the blanket anymore.
In just two more weeks I am certain this baby will be crawling. He’s definitely getting ready to crawl.
I can’t believe he’ll be crawling soon. I swear this first year goes by way too quickly! The first year is my most favorite year and it seems to pass the quickest out of all the years of childhood. My other kids have been saying things like, “I can’t wait until he crawls.” and “I can’t wait until he talks.” and “I can’t wait until he can run around.”
They are eager for those things to happen. But me? Not so much. I can wait. I’m just enjoying him at this age so much. I’d like to stretch it out as long as I can.

I laughed out loud at the sitting-to-falling pics as mine does the same. He’s #5, our last, and at 8 months is just now starting to sit up. I, like you, am not rushing any part of this precious stage. It is but a fleeting moment. (our oldest is 20)

I only have three kids (so far) and I too LOVE the baby stage. My youngest just turned seven months and he started crawling at five months. This mama was sad about that because I want my little baby back!

Awwww…. his smile is adorable. I especially love the airplane pic. What a precious, perfect baby boy. and I remember how hard it was to get the smiles on camera. Good job!

Is it possible to be spoiled when there are 9 brothers and sisters? I think we will find out….probably not.
